Description and usage notes:

This Givaudan product is described by them as: “Odor: Balsamic, Sweet, Myrrh, Orange flower Use: Bisabolene has a warm, sweet-spicy-balsamic odour very typical of opopanax and “oriental” fragrance types. It finds use in artificial oil of bergamot, myrrh and lemon, and is an excellent fixative for neroli bases.”

It also makes an important contribution to the recreation of oud.

When Arctander was writing this was a new material and he saw a good future for it: “Recently made available as a comparatively low-cost, pure and synthetic chemical (H,la-Roche Co.), this sesquiterpene should have a good and bright future in perfumery, not only as “another key material for some reconstituted essential oils”, but also – and mostly – as a very attractive, colorless and stable material to form an important part of the fragrance picture of Oriental and Opopanax, Chypre, novelty fragrance types, etc. As mentioned above, it finds good use in artificial oils of Bergamot, Myrrh, Lemon, etc. and it is an excellent fixative for Neroli bases. It performs well in soap and acts as a stable fixative.”

One point worth noting is that although this is a clear, mobile and innocent looking oil, it is also capable of forming a hard resin when it dries out and this can lead to it acting like a glue: take care to ensure bottle tops are kept clean or they can prove difficult or impossible to re-open!

Warm vegetation-like tropical-woody scent, also part of carrot seed oil.

Very reminiscent of Opopanax and Myrrh. Not too sweet, beautifully balsamic.
