Description

Description and usage notes:

Fresh, green, typical cut-grass note. Very useful and versatile but also very easy to overdose.  Provides top-note effects for a huge range of fragrances, including some that are not intuitively obvious such as sandalwood.

According to Arctander: “Traces of cis-3-Hexenol are used in refreshing topnotes in delicate floral fragrance types, such as Muguet and Lilac, and the alcohol is often used along with Geranium oil, Galbanum, Oakmoss, Lavender and Mint oils in various fragrance types.

Jean Claude Elena, in his book Diary of a Nose, suggests that in combination with beta-iononeframbinone and fructone this material can contribute to an effective illusion of the smell of raspberries.  He says “Unlike cherries, which have more taste than smell, raspberries are all about smell … Adding cis-3-hexenol gives a sour, green quality, while geraniol will give a taste of lipstick.”

He also suggest it for the Green Apple in his “colorful basket of apples” :

I like the fragrance of this. It blends beautifully with sandalwood. Another that I prefer to buy already diluted.
