Description and usage notes:
Very powerful and persistent, this material is easy to underestimate. Although widely used in flavour composition it can also bring substantially greater realism to fruity accords of many kinds particularly peach. One of very few materials that can compete with the musks for longevity.
Arctander describes it as “Very powerful and tenacious, sweet creamy, Nut-like odor with a heavy fruity undertone. The undiluted material displays a rather coumarinic sharpness in its topnote, but at concentrations of 0.1% or lower, it seems to grow in volume, sweetness and oily-creamy softness.”
He goes on to tell us: “This Lactone – only recently made commercially available – is used on a small scale in perfume compositions, often as part of a new musky type fragrance, or as a modifier in heavy floral fragrances where other Lactones are already employed (Gardenia, Tuberose, etc.).”
