Description and usage notes:

Until recently a captive of IFF, this is a very useful material for adding freshness to a fragrance.

It works particularly well in candles where citrus notes can be difficult to get right.

IFF describe it like this: “Adds sparkle and bloom to most compounds.  Grapefruit, rhubarb, vetivers, green, woody.”

Arcadi Boix Camps, writing in 2009, when it was still a captive, tells us that it is “chemically related to Symrise’s Hydrocitronitrile but it smells totally different. It is extraordinarily citrussy-grapefruitlike with a torrent of freshness within its molecule.”

We would also like to draw to your attention the detailed review by EM which contains further suggested uses and combinations for this excellent material.

    Very surprising and beautiful material.

It gives clarity to citrus materials and the combination with ingredients such as methyl pamplemousse, dimethyl octenone, dimethyl benzyl carbinol, Alicate, Paradisamide, styrallyl acetate, rose oxide, diphenyl oxide, centifolether, peonile, peomosa and damascones etc. When used with natural citrus oils such as Sweet Orange, Mandarin, Bergamot, Cedrat etc Khusinil gives natural depth. A superb material.

I personally enjoy the combination with sclareolate, clary sage, Vetiver/ vetiveryl acetate, ginger absolute and Ambrofix/ ambroxan/ cetalox.

Works well with aldehydes too, recently I have been experimenting with Khusinil and mandarin aldehyde with traces of tangerine acetate. The results are of which are going well. Work in progress.
