Description

Description and usage notes:

This unusual acetate is remarkably versatile as a top-to-middle note in a range of fragrance types.  The ambery quality doesn’t seem to have been mentioned by other commentators but seems quite apparent to this perfumer and reminiscent of that aspect that is present in a good quality of orange flower absolute.

According to Arctander is has a “Sweet, woody-fruity odor of moderate tenacity.  Some similarity to Linalylacetate, however, less sweet, less fruity, more woody. A refined grade of Nopyl acetate shows more sweetness, less woody-piney odor.”

He goes on to tell use that: “This ester was introduced in the years of shortage and high prices of Linalyl acetate, and it had a considerable mission to fill at that time. Although it is no longer considered as a ‘substitute for Linalylacetate’ it has found its place in perfumery as a versatile and low-cost sweet and fruity ester for use in Citrus, Fougere, Bergamot, Neroli, Cologne and soap perfumes, fragrances for various household products, etc. For many purposes, it gives better results than Terpinyl acetate and it is only slightly more expensive.”
