Description

Description and usage notes:

Probably more commonly known as Frankincense Resin, the perfumery industry has largely adopted the synonym olibanum for products of the Boswellia species, hence that is used for this product.

Very deep base-note that adds the distinctive incense note as well as giving excellent fixation, especially to citrus.

This is an IFF product extracted from Boswellia carteri and diluted by them in Tri-Ethyl Citrate to make it mobile and easy to use.

Description from IFF: “Balsamic, warm and mineral, full and long lasting note, reminiscent of church.”

Note that this is quite a different material from the widely available essential oil of olibanum (frankincense), which is much higher in terpenes with far more top-note and less incense effect.

Arctander points out that: “Olibanum Resinoid is a valuable fixative, but it also lends its own peculiar odor to the perfume (see odor description under Olibanum Oil and Absolute), Since the essential oil content is only about 8%, the Resinoid of Olibanum has a much more versatile application in perfumery than has the essential oil.”

Gorgeous true frankincense note, blends beautifully and has less terpenes? than the essential oil, smells more resinous but church like.

I love this product. The moment is smelled it I thought, Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens, one of my favourite perfumes. This products smells exactly like a pine tree, resinous, strong but not overbearing and long lasting. I made an accord using it as well as sweet and raw frankincense which I’ve tinctured, sweet and raw Myrrh that I’ve also tinctured as well as vey little birch tar. I plan to make another accord using Olibanum Oleoresin, Frankincense, fir needles and valspice.

A very refined frankincense that is void of the terpenic overtones contained in the EO. Perfect for giving that incense note and blends excellently well with citrus and spicy notes! A favourite.

Dense, oily, pine, but at the same time gentle and sensual. Everything I love in incense. Power and tenderness at the same time.

A nice frankincense base note, warmer, fuller and more of a churchy vibe than any eo.
For anyone who wants to build an incense perfume, this is a very good starting point.
