Description and usage notes:
In proper dilution this is a very beautiful, natural and edible melon note that is also very watery. Widely used in melon, watermelon, strawberry and related fruit flavours it can equally be used to contribute to those notes in fragrance.
In fragrances it is also useful to add lift and diffusion (in a similar way to that provided by trans-2-cis-6-nonadienal). In this context very tiny traces are used, while up to 0.1% might be included in a fragrance with a dominant melon note.
Writing in 1978 Arcadi Boix Camps says “Let us mention cis-6-nonenol, with an absolutely natural and intense melon character, which could lead to important innovations in the future.” In 1985 he talks about a group of materials he calls ‘melon fuitals’: “… which includes products as extraordinary as … cis-6-nonenol, Melonal, Floralozone, Helional and the extraordinary Calone”
This material is both extremely powerful and quite expensive and as such is presented for sale at 1% in DPG: should you need nonenol for an application in which DPG would not be appropriate, please contact us: we may be able to help.
