Description and usage notes:
Ethereal, fresh-fruity, reminiscent of pear, banana and apple and very useful for adding a light, juicy, fruit top-note to many compositions. The material offered here is produced to a minimum 99% purity.
Arctander describes the odour as: “Pronounced fruity-fresh …, sweet but slightly nauseating. In dilution reminiscent of Pear, Banana, Apple. Very volatile”
He goes on to say that it is “Occasionally used – in mere traces – in perfumery for “lift” to heavy-oriental fragrances, florals, etc. Concentration about 0.1 to 0.2% in the perfume oil.
Used in nail polish removers and in nail polish as a solvent.
Used extensively in flavor compositions for imitation Pear, Raspberry, Strawberry, Banana, Caramel, Cola, Coconut, Apple, Cherry, Creamsoda, Grape, Butter, Peach, Pineapple, Rum, Vanilla, etc.” and he points out that in some cases it can constitute as much as 10-20% or even 40% of the entire amount of flavouring ingredients used.
