Description and usage notes:
This is the pure material as sold by Givaudan. As it is both extremely powerful and expensive we also offer it in dilution.
Normally used in high dilution, just traces are enough to provide an exceptional boost to citrus power.
As well as the obvious uses in citrus and other fruity fragrances this material can add lift and originality to many kinds of floral, with a particular usefulness in constructing muguet-type and orange-blossom-type fragrances.
Description from Givaudan: “Odor: Aldehydic, Orange, Green, Floral. Use: Decenal-4-Trans is an exceptionally powerful and diffusive chemical. Used mainly as a top note ingredient, it produces a fresh, natural, citrus-like effect, imparting tremendous lift.”
Arcadi Boix Camps writing in 1985, describes this and the related cis compound as “an extremely agreeable, citric aldehyde, orange flower odour, and it profoundly changes every kind of floral note in alcoholic perfumes.” He warns that it is “of such extraordinary strength that it should be used with the greatest precaution in solutions of 1%” and also notes that the trans form, as offered here, is cheaper than the cis form but they are otherwise very similar.
