Description and usage notes:
As with all pyrazines this is used in tiny traces – Earthy Pyrazine at 0.1% in IPM smells rather like raw potato or freshly dug soil, but this material is also present in the scent of coffee and chocolate so it’s more versatile than might at first be thought.
Even at this dilution this is a very strong scent that combines well with Geosmin, Terranol and similar materials to give a wet effect. Also with nutty, chocolatey and, perhaps surprisingly with green notes, to give warmth, depth and diffusion.
Eve –
Unique and confounding fragrance; earth and potatoes! Want to copy Tom Ford’s Black orchid, pretty sure this is your guy for that “tuber” note. Mixes remarkably well with florals and herbals for a “gardeny” undertone. Use it well and most people won’t be able to pick it out, they’ll just say “Oh, it’s a field, wildflowers, a garden, the countryside….”
melchiorum (verified owner) –
Earthy Pyrazine and Geosmin are what I call twin-sibling materials. Similar on the surface, but infinitely different in their subtlety. They blend together very well allowing for the creation of a powerful petrichor accord. Where Geosmin smells almost purely of damp earth, Earhy Pyrazine adds depth and complexity by adding fungal, moldy, rooty undertones. Smelled in high concentrations is hits you with a blunt punch of raw unwashed potato. In trace amounts, however, it is warmer, greener and wonderfully deep.
Just like Geosmin, it does not tolerate carelessness, and when overdosed – it will easily overpower other fragrances and ruin your blend. Dilute it and use utmost care to get the most out of it.
