Description and usage notes:
This is one of the classic bases that has been in widespread use in perfumery since Firmenich introduced it to showcase the, then captive, Ambrox DL.
From an olfactory point of view it is represents a very white, clean Ambergris, its great value being as an exalting fixative with ambergris character.
Description from Firmenich: “A very powerful odour of ambergris with a slightly woody-dry character.”
Note that there is no applicable CAS number because this substance is a mixture of aromatic materials.

- Benzyl benzoate, CAS 120-51-4, 0.0131%
- Coumarin, CAS 91-64-5, 0.0002%
- Methyl ionone (mixed isomers), CAS 1335-46-2, 0.3292%

At 10% on a strip: Ambroxan’s older brother. Schoolyard bully with multiple personalities. Could be dangerous.
At 1% on a strip: Much more workable. This is ambroxan with more depth, complexity and quality.
Use them together: less is more.
