This material gives a more chocolaty and creamy, richer, vanilla note than vanillin less powerful and much creamier than ethyl vanillin but also substantially less discolouring than either. This material is extremely long-lasting as well as immediately attractive in odour. In its undiluted form it is solid, but it is offered here at 50% in DPG, which makes it easy to handle.
Givaudan describe Isobutavan like this: “Isobutavan has a sweet and creamy vanillic character reminiscent of white chocolate, cream soda with a soft apricot feeling.Isobutavan is much less discoloring than vanillin or ethyl vanillin and can be used at levels up to 2% including in toilet soap fragrances before discolouration becomes a problem. It is less powdery than vanillin and has a more creamy effect.”
Arcadi Boix Camps, writing in 1999 says that this material “possesses sweet, vanillin with buttery, chocolate and cocoa shades. It is used when one is looking to diversify and sophisticate the effects found with vanillin and ethyl vanillin.”
