Description and usage notes:
An enriching, volumising ingredient with diffusive capabilities similar to that of Iso E Super; also has a slightly smoky background note.
Description from Givaudan: “Kephalis is a very versatile and rich product, used as a long lasting heart/basic note. It blends well with floral notes (jasmine, rose, violet, lavender, etc.) as well as sophisticated amber, woody-aldehydic, tobacco and masculine creations.”
The Scent and Chemistry authors point out that Kephalis, just like Cashmeran, is often a key component of synthetic reconstructions of oud / agarwood.

This is a useful product which appears in many formulas. It is somewhat similar to PTBCHA (Vertenex), but the fruity (juice fruit chewing gum) aspect of the latter is toned down in favour of a richer, cedar quality.

Really impressed, out of the bottle it doesn’t smell like much but after spraying it’s very nice. Kind of black agar meets ISO e, airy, woody and honey-sweet. It has a strange solvent like texture which if played on would make some amazing blends.
Very CDG 🙂

Gives a gorgeous masculine lift to any wood accord. You will “hear” a nice echo of a distant lemony top note within this tobacco/wood middle-to-base note.
I get how one can find it similar to Vertenex (especially the HC version). However, Kephalis is much brighter and, to me, stands BETWEEN wood and tobacco, like a richly faceted link.
I must confess, I cannot stand neither Vertenex nor Vertofix…

Oh, I love this stuff. So warm, woody, powdery, tobacco and soft. I also smell a clear ambegris note.
I read anywhere an association with the dust of brickstones. (When workers are drilling or sawing asphalt or bricks)
Unfortunately this association disturbs the overall great impression. Adding some vanilla completely cancells out the brick-flavour. What remains is a wonderful warm woody note!
Crazy, but wonderful!

Wood, flowers, lemon zest, spice, water. All about it. Non-standard and interesting.

This has a real “sparkle” when you add it to other wood notes. It just give a little bit of air and scintillation to stop the woods becoming heavy. Bright and nuanced, I find it indispensable in a whisky accord.

When I got Kit 4, this was the material which first really grabbed my attention first – woody/amber but with something else: the word which comes to mind is “sophisticated”. Really beautiful.

Lovely note. It gives impression of bitter (but not citrus) side of grapefruit overlapping with Iso E and dry lavender tobacco.
