A highly interesting and powerful material that can be used in multiple types of accords, but is almost essential in a marine fragrance. It can also work well in fruity accords where it can enhance apple, melon and watermelon in particular. The two odour descriptions below, together with our own at the top of this entry, show just how many interpertations of this material are possible.
Description from IFF: “Odor Description:Powerful, clean, wet, fresh air tone reminiscent of ocean breezes. Excellent performer in many media”
Arcadi Boix Camps, writing in 1985, includes Maritima in group of materials he describes as “resinous-green-seaweed-waxy“, which suggests he’s smelling something rather different in the material than the IFF perfumer who wrote their description.
