Description and usage notes:
This is the trans isomer. Strong and persistent balsamic odour, becoming fruitier with increasing dilution. Very useful in amber and oriental styles of fragrance and in combination with labdanum.
Arctander puts it like this “This ester is widely wed in perfume compositions, but normally at very low concentration. It imparts power and sweet-fruity, balsamic ‘Oriental’ notes to Ambre bases, Citrus colognes (where it blends excellently with Labdanum products), Carnation (where it introduces freshness), Narcisse, Lavender, Fruit and Spice blends, etc.”
Usage level is from traces to about 2% of the concentrate.
This material is solid with a melting point around 38 Centigrade, but repeated melting can result in polymerisation of the product (ultimately rendering it useless) so to minimise the need for this it is offered here as a 50% solution in DEP. However we are now able to offer it as a crystalline mass – undiluted – through this product.
DH (verified owner) –
A strong fruity balsamic note. This might be useful if you wanted a stronger effect than you can get by using the IFRA safe amounts of things like cinnamyl alcohol, Peru balsam, Tolu balsam, or styrax.
The pure material dissolves readily in alcohol.
