Description and usage notes:
Original IFF manufactured material, one of the most economical and effective orris / iris chemicals available being both powerful and diffusive as well as reasonably priced.
IFF describe it as: “A powerful orris type aroma. Very economical. Camphoraceous, earthy, orris.”
Arctander describes it as: “Very powerful, diffusive, woody-camphoraceous odor, slightly earthy, yet with some resemblance to Orris root, overall very dry.” and says that it “Finds extensive use in perfumery, at low concentration, for its power, soap stability and compatibility with Ionones, Lavandin oil, etc.”
Arcadi Boix Camps says that he would be “remiss not to recall … Orivone, with an earthy odor of orris, somewhat reminiscent of trans-2-nonenal, but much less intense”

very very earthy orris type, not much flowery smell but a great base to add to the iris flower accord

Orivone is an elegant floral-woody top and heart note, more typically masculine than other orris-type chemicals. Rather than orris butter, its smell resembles the fresh rhizomes, and requires pairing with irone alpha, methyl ionone and, in fine perfumery, natural orris to bring out its fresh, dry, powdery floral character. It also displays a camphoraceous, earthy, herbal aspect recalling spike lavender, so blends easily with lavender, cardamom, sage dalmatian and patchouli oils.
