Description and usage notes:
PEA is an extremely useful material and full details about it can be found in the main entry. However it’s relatively short lived and can exhibit a harsh topnote: both problems are alleviated in this simple mixture, recommended by Arctander in his seminal work on aroma chemicals:
“However, its odor is clearly demonstrated in an experiment with an apparently weak crystalline ftxative/odorant, such as [rose crystals]. With 5% of the crystalline material, Phenylethylalcohol will smell not only much more rosy, it will last much longer, and its ‘rough’ topnotes are pleasantly subdued, it has ‘three dimensions’ instead of two.”
Because this is such a useful combination, and because dissolving the crystals in PEA really requires the use of an automatic stirrer, we’re offering PEA here with 10% Rose Crystals already incorporated. We went for 10% rather than the 5% Arctander suggests because that allows more versatility in use – you can easily create a 5% solution by mixing with an equal amount of plain PEA if you wish.
