Amber Core by Kao

Description and usage notes:

Description from Kao: “A very soft delicate woody amber note with a natural richness”, this is a very reasonably priced amber material that can be used alone or in support of the more expensive materials such as Ambrofix and Ambermax.

Kao have this to say about its uses: “AMBER CORE excellently harmonizes with many materials. It blends well with a delicate composition such as Citrus and Muguet. It can be used in a big amount, recommended use level ; up to 50%, bringing to life a natural spirit in all fragrances"" Such a natural spirit indeed that, despite being entirely synthetic in origin, it has been found in at least one “all natural” fragrance currently on the market!

Arcadi Boix Camps, writes in 1999 that it “is beautiful, velvety and delicate, smelling similar to cedramber but with a different ambery nuance that is less costly.  It is very effective in functional products because it is quite substantive.  It is also very useful for boosting the fragrance of detergents.  It forms part of the base called begur."" Rarely offered in small quantities."

Shipping & Returns

Please note this information needs updating and may not be accurate.

Pell Wall are proud to ship to almost anywhere in the world! All of our orders are packed in and shipped from the United Kingdom.

Below you will find information on our delivery options and charges to the regions we ship to, the easiest way to determine what you’ll pay for shipping is to add items to your cart and enter your details on the checkout page – your shipping will be automatically calculated.

Choosing your delivery option

When you check out, you will be able to choose which delivery service you would like. The checkout will always clearly explain which options are available to you.

We typically have two options available; a standard option and a premium option. Sometimes, depending on your address and what you are buying, there may only be one delivery option available rather than a choice.

We do not have options to accomodate different sized orders for example; when ordering just filter papers, gloves or other small items – we would reccommend ordering these with more substantial products to make the shipping fee more economical.

Unfortunately we are unable to deliver to some countries and this will be indicated further down this page.

Cut off points

We try to get your order out as soon as possible howver please bear in mind that we are a very small team and the number of orders we can be dealing with in a day can vary a lot. We typically have one collection each day from our main courier partners, DPD and DHL.

Courier Collection Days Collection Time
DPD Monday – Friday 12pm
DHL Monday – Friday 10am
FedEx Monday – Friday 1pm

* these times can vary and are issued only as a guide, to have a chance of having your parcel ready for the next day’s collection please ensure you order at least a working day before.

Every order is tracked

For maximum peace of mind, all orders are sent with tracking. You can easily track your order and follow its progress on both our and our courier's websites by clicking the tracking code we automatically send to you on your shipping confirmation.

All of our deliveries will require a signature and 'proof of delivery' (usually a photograph of the parcel outside your address) before they can be handed over to you, our couriers should not leave the package anywhere unless you have advised them otherwise.

What if you are out when your order arrives?

If you are out when the parcel arrives, a delivery attempt will be registered on your tracking (provided in your Shipping Confirmation Email). You will then be able to contact the courier directly via the details provided on their tracking page in order to rearrange delivery for a time more convenient for you or to arrange a collection (if available).

Most couriers have a delivery window of 8AM to 8PM and will provide a delivery time estimate but please refer to your tracking for more information.

In most cases our couriers will automatically reattempt to deliver your package unless you have advised them otherwise, if you miss multiple delivery attempts your parcel will be returned to us – if this happens and you contact us to send it back you will need to cover any additional shipping charges.

Special considerations

The largest quantities we can ship of any material is 5kg / 5L.

We do not ship large quantites of Perfumer's Alcohol - Internationally we will ship up to 1L per order, for UK parcels we will ship up to 2L. Please do not place orders for multiples of 1L if the package is being delivered internationally - we will refund all but 1L.

What if your delivery doesn’t arrive when you expect it to?

If your delivery is more than 5 working days overdue, please contact us. We will then do everything we can to track down your order.

Missing/Lost Deliveries

If your order tracking indicates that your parcel should have been delivered and you have not received it please notify us as soon as possibble, usually within 48 hours unless there exceptional circumstances.

Our couriers are still using contactless delivery methods since the pandemic which mean they do not always obtain a signature so please do check safe areas that a courier may leave the package such as a recycling bin or front porch.

We are unable to take responsibility for items left in communal areas such as flat lobbies or reception areas.

Returns and refunds

Our returns policy is laid out in our terms and conditions of sale and generally unless there is damage to an item you have ordered we are unlikely to be able to provide a refund as the vast majority of products we sell are made to order.

Please contact us before you send anything back to us.

Delivery costs and options

This section is undergoing maintenance and will updated in due course.

We ship with DPD for all UK deliveries.

We ship with FedEx or DHL for EU deliveries.

We ship with DHL or FedEx for rest of the world deliveries such as the US, Dubai etc.

Please do not contact us about cheaper rates, we are constantly trying to get more competitive rates and will update them as we go. We will not reply to queries of that nature!

Sometimes, shipping rates may also go up, often without notice.

Please note that all delivery timeframe estimates are just that, estimates, and they apply from the date of dispatch  not the date when the order was placed.

Outlying and Remote Regions

Delivery to remote areas may cost more and may take longer to deliver, these areas can include addresses at the following post codes;

  • AB31 to AB38, AB40 to AB56, IV, KA27 & KA28, KW, PA20 to PA78, PH4 to PH50 and ZE in Scotland

As with all of our delivery charges, these areas have a flat rate of shipping assigned and it does not change for small or large orders – if you feel the fee you are quoted is too expensive, we would encourage you to add more items to your order.

Descriptions

Each entry contains a short list of scent notes with occasionally other short commentary to assist those who may not have encountered the material previously to decide whether it is of interest: I recommend you make your own assessment of each and every perfumery material you use however.

After pricing, quantity options and other basic details scroll down for narative descriptions: these are intended to assit interested readers as well as potential purchasers to assess the uses and potential of the material in question.

Many of the descriptions contain quotations from the manufacturer of the product and in addition I have quoted fairly extensively from Arctander[1] and from Arcadi Boix Camps[2] – both independent writers and both highly experienced perfumers.

There are also some quotes from Bedoukian[3] where details of the chemistry of a material are significant and from Scent & Chemistry[4] the authors of which have taken an analytical approach to the art of perfumery that is unusual and very useful. Quotations have been included from the extremely useful teaching books by Calkin & Jellinek[5] and Curtis & Williams[6] and Surburg and Panten [7] as well.

Anything not identified as a quotation is my own opinion of the material in question and it’s uses, but I am grateful to many other sources and perfumers as well as the expert authors named here.  Please note that these descriptions are copyright of the author and, other than properly achnowledged fair use quoations as defined in English Law, republication in any form is not permitted.

[1] Steffen Arctander: quotations are taken from Perfume and Flavor Chemicals published in 1969 and Perfume and Flavor Materials of Natural Origin published in 1961

[2] Arcadi Boix Camps: quotations are taken from Perfumery: Techniques in Evolution, 2nd Edition published in 2009, but containing material written in 1978, 1985, and 1999 as well – where relevant the date of writing is noted with the quotations.

[3] Bedoukian: quotations are taken from Perfume and Flavoring Synthetics, 3rd, Revised Edition by Paul Z. Bedoukian, Ch.E., Ph.D. Published in 1986.

[4] Scent & Chemistry by Ohloff, Pickenhagen and Kraft, published as a book of that name in 2012, from which I have quoted, but also referencing updates on their maintained Facebook page . In addition this tag is used in the descriptions for other works involving the same authors, including:

[6] Curtis & Williams: quotations are taken from An Introduction to Perfumery 2nd Edition, by Tony Curtis and David G Williams, published in 2001

[7] Surburg and Panten: quotations are taken from Common Fragrance and Flavor Materials. Preparation, Properties and Uses. 5th Edition by Horst Surburg and Johannes Panten (Copyright 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim), published in 2006

Spelling

A quick note about spellings: this website is primarily written in British English - it is after all written by an English Perfumer - however most of the authors mentioned here and many of the manufacturers were writing for American audiences and published using American English: where that is the case I have, as far as possible, preserved the spelling used in the source material.  As a result there may be inconsistencies on any given page, but that seemed to me better than arbitrarily changing material in the process of quotation.

Quantity Options

We’ve recently had a change of policy - and bought some new containers - so now all ingredients are sold by weight whether they are solids or liquids.  Only the 10ml and 5ml sizes incorporated in kits, and a few inexpensive materials such as solvents, are still done by volume.  Even the 5ml and 10ml sizes will now be filled to contain 5g or 10g regardless of whether the material is solid or liquid.

Liquids up to 10g in glass bottles (where the fill level may vary as illustrated above), 30g and 50g in HDPE Plastic.

Those materials available in 1Kg are normally supplied in aluminium flasks similar to those used for the 500g size, though we do supply a few materials in HDPE bottles as well.

Finally please note that, with some 500 different materials and so many size options we don’t hold ready-to-sell stocks: when you buy perfumery ingredients we will prepare them to order for you.  This means that large orders can sometimes take a few days to prepare and also that we don’t offer refunds on ingredients, unless of course there is a fault of some kind.
